The Emotional Needs Course
What do you want?
This is a fundamentally important question. Often, when I ask this question in therapy, clients struggle to find a stable or consistent answer.
That's why I made this course. Here, I'll give you a framework or model that helps you understand what it is you really want and need to feel whole and less conflicted within yourself.
Above all, this model is simple. It is based off the short eBook I wrote "Forget Happiness" which introduces 5 basic emotional needs within us (included in the course).
First, simply knowing what these needs are is essential. This is particularly important if we experience emotional blocks such as depression, anxiety, or emotional numbness (dissociation).
Then, there's the important matter of finding ways to keep these emotional needs in balance. This course introduces the concept of competing emotional needs. Some are favored, often to the point of becoming unhealthy or dominant (the Golden Child). Others are seen as a liability or 'the Black Sheep'.
You'll learn that none of your emotional needs are bad; they all need validation, time, and energy. You'll also learn that the solution is to learn effective self-parenting skills in balancing and meeting these emotional needs or 'competing inner-children'.
Who is this Course for?
If you're wondering whether this course can help, ask yourself the following questions:
Do you often feel conflicted about how you are spending your time?
Do you ever feel resentment or frustration without knowing why exactly?
Do your feel an emptiness inside that may be masking a sadness?
Is indecision causing you to lose confidence?
Do you often feel exhausted and unable to do the things you want?
Does indecision lead to a paralysis where you feel unable to do anything?
Do you feel guilty about not getting things done?
Do you feel jealousy about what other people have or how they live?
Does the idea of self-care sound like a 'nice idea' but you've never really resonated with it fully or invested time in it?
Do you feel you don't understand who you are fully, even if you know your personality type well?
If any of these questions resonated with you, this course can help. It is, above all, practical in nature. It also recognizes that for any model to be useful, it must be simple and not overwhelming to implement.
I've been working on self awareness and spirituality for many years. What I found helpful is that this approach recongises the value of that but also helps me see that there is a human aspect to my life that needs attention and compassion.
“I now know that one of my emotional needs had been repressed and ignored for several years. Simply becoming aware of it, and giving it permission to exist has opened my eyes. I still have integrating to do, but this model has been incredibly helpful for me.”
